The beginning of our love story!


This is us back in 1988!!
I celebrate every little anniversary. Today is a very special day. It is the 29th anniversary of the day that the guy I was dating asked me to be his girlfriend. 29 years later, he’s still my boyfriend and I’m still his girlfriend although we now have other titles too…we are now husband and wife and mommy and daddy. What an amazing life we have created since December 9, 1988 at 12:56pm right before 6th period class!!

We were just meant to be. I took a chance and wrote him a note in my 5th period class. I had a mutual friend deliver it to him. Then he took a chance and called me, although he said it took him all night to do it. He was so nervous! Once we had that first conversation, we have been together ever since!!

I love this time of year for us. We think back to our first days and linger in the memories and all the special first moments. How he and his best friend talked about how to ask me to be his girlfriend, would I say yes? "Of course she’ll say yes, you’re holding hands all day at school. Why would she say no?"


We think about the first time we spoke, the first time he saw me, the first time he picked me up in his famous 1987 Firebird he won at Disneyland (which we still have by the way), we listened to the Eagles Hotel California on that first car ride, the first time we held hands, our first kiss, the first time he let me drive his car. It reignites that high school passion once again. I love re-living it all, our beginning. It still amazes me that a 16 year old girl with a crush on the 17 year old high school senior created this amazing life!


We have grown up together.  We've made mistakes, some bigger than others, but we've also done amazing, wonderful things and have learned great lessons and made ourselves and our marriage even stronger.  We have built a life so full of love with our two beautiful daughters, our family and our family of friends.  They all fill our life with such fun, happiness and so many memories we have made and are continuing to make.  I look forward with excitement of what the future holds for us. We have many dreams and goals and so much to look forward to.  Whatever comes our way we'll do it together and that's all that matters.

Calling BS on myself!!

You guys know that I overshare sometimes (serious apologies…sorta), but I like to keep it real and I believe in sharing it all, the good, the bad and the ugly not just the highlight reels. I do this because I know if I'm struggling with something, there is someone else out there that is struggling too and they need to know they are not alone in this. I've had plenty of struggles and challenges in my life, and what I've learned is that these struggles and challenges are what makes us stronger, it's where we grow, it’s where we learn who we are and it's where we learn to appreciate the process and the success that goes along with it.  Your health & fitness is no different. 


Here’s the real honest deal:  I’ve gained 15 pounds that I’ve been strategically trying to hide all summer long and hiding is such hard work you guys, physically, but mostly emotionally.  Yes, it’s been a fabulous and fun summer that I have fully enjoyed with my family and friends.  Traveling, vacation, late nights, bbq’s and patio time, boating, cocktails and wine, time with friends, yadda yadda.  I have absolutely LOVED every single moment of it!!  

However it’s time for the shenanigans to stop. You know them: exercising but not really (not pushing hard, choosing “easier” workouts but “work out” was checked off my to do list), NOT following my meal plan (start out amazing in the morning but then end the night looking 4 months pregnant because of carb overload) and the return of the nightly glass (no, let’s be real, 2 glasses) of wine. 

It’s absolutely not just about my pant size or a number on the scale. However, these are my alarms that go off when I know things have gotten way too far off track. I'm sharing this because honestly, I feel like SH*T (sorry for cussing).  My energy is at the bottom of the barrel, my moods are a bit of a roller coaster, my strength and my cardio workouts are truly suffering, and my clothes are getting too tight!!  This has got to stop because I have some super cute fall pants that I must get this bootay into!  Most importantly though, my mindset is off.  Not having clothes fit or a number on the scale doesn't matter as much as my mindset.  Not feeling good about myself, not feeling proud, knowing that I'm not taking good care of me is a sad feeling.  I don't like feeling like this.  I like being more self-confident and happy and just rockin and rollin through life feeling fabulous!  I want that Christina back!

Why am I oversharing with you?  Because moments like this, used to make me feel so disappointed in myself, sad and depressed and wanting to throw my hands up in the air and ask “WHY am I bothering?  It’s so much work and what for?”  We want INSTANT gratification and when we don't get it, we think those icky, negative, defeating thoughts to ourselves.

And then, if it’s not enough to feel bad about myself, I decide to just go eat whatever I want “just for today” and I’ll start again tomorrow with a better attitude or I decide a glass of wine will help me feel better.  Either way I get in a funk and feel guilty and horrible because I KNOW I can do this, I’ve done it before, I have the full love and support of my hubby and family and I have all of the tools needed to accomplish it, I just need to USE THEM. It's no one's fault but my own and I'm OWNING MY OWN BS TODAY!

If any of this resonates with you, I want you to know you're absolutely not alone. We all have those times in life where we seem to take a step or two forward and then a giant leap back. I know….I’ve been living it this summer.

For me, it stops TODAY. Right now!  Here's my accountability picture....my never, ever again....I know, I'm still hiding from you.  See that smile.  Yeah, no.  Not a happy camper.  Still some shame there... I'm saving the whole pics for a freaking awesome after pic!!

With all of this long winded post being said (thank you if you actually read this all and have gotten to the end), whether you have started with me before, are wanting to start or don't know where to start.  If you are sitting, watching and waiting to see how this all unfolds, I just want you to know, if you need help, I'm ALWAYS here for you.  I haven't given up on myself and I'd never give up on you....we are in this thing called LIFE together to lift each other up and help one another to be the best versions of ourselves that we are capable of becoming!

New member of the family!


We have a new member of the family!  I would like to introduce you to our new Mazda CX-9.  As much as I loved our Buick Enclave, she was getting a little old and things were starting to go wrong.  She was going to need quite a bit of work done.  So….here we are!  

And here’s the bonus:  I will be able to cover this new monthly car payment from one week’s Beachbody paycheck relieving this payment from our family budget.  Getting this extra paycheck each week has been such a blessing for myself and my family.   It's amazing how having your car payment taken care of from just a week’s pay from something you love to do and would even do without the pay, just makes you feel so GRATEFUL!!

Sometimes you just need to take a leap!

This one gave me goosebumps this morning. To me that means, it's what my soul is feeling and wants me to hear.

Aah....tea



Aah....tea. I have come to enjoy it even more. I lost my craving for coffee when I did the 21 Day Ultimate Reset in January. I have tried having a latte and just a cup of coffee since then but it just doesn't taste good to me anymore and I found that it actually really bothers my stomach. But, I have found a love for tea. I love something hot and comforting in the morning and now a great herbal tea at night. There are so many flavors to choose from and so many varieties. Plus, it's way cheaper when we stop at Starbucks and you hardly have to wait a minute for them to make it. Time and money saver too! :) Are you a coffee or tea drinker? What's your favorite tea? I love finding new ones to try.

My 2nd Ultimate Reset Journey - a bit of a roller coaster this time around

 
Happy Friday to you! Well, I've been a little bit off the grid for a couple of days from my Reset updates so I thought I'd catch you up (for those that are interested). If not, just keep scrolling by. It's ok! ;)

So I'm on day 5 and it's been a bit of a roller coaster. I've been right on track with my food, water and supplements. No problem there. Totally satisfied and content with food. Never been hungry. However, what I'm experiencing this time around is completely different than when I did the Reset this past summer.

I had a horrible, horrible headache from Tuesday morning to Thursday night. Awful! I stayed home from work on Wednesday because I just couldn't handle it. I was also extremely tired. I felt like I had taken Nyquil or a PM medication and was being kept awake. It was crazy!! FInally I was majorly emotional. I am an emotional person anyway, I can cry at commercials. But this was over the top. I cried at the dinner table over nothing! Seriously!! I decided to just go up and take a nice, long hot bath with epsom salts and try and get more toxins out. I layed up in the tub and cried for awhile. I had a lot on my mind that was coming to the surface. I felt better after I cried, got it all out and put it all into perspective.

The thing is that this is truly part of the process. Detoxing is not easy. Obviously I have done more to my body than last time I did this because the detox is much harder. Overcoming emotional hurdles is part of the process. The program encourages you to meditate, do yoga, breathing, stretching and journaling during this time. 
 
Fast forward to today....day 5 and I feel amazing!!  Headache is gone, I have much more energy, still satisfied with my food, I am happier, no more emotional roller coaster.  I feel great!!  Feeling this way will keep me on top of my game for 16 more days!!  
 
The weekend is always harder.  This weekend I have 2 social events to go to with family.  I have planned and prepped for it.  I will succeed.  I can live without wine!  Right?  Yes I can! Right?  I need the force to be with me.  Seriously I can do this.

I thought I'd share more info on the emotional release part of the Reset.  It's pretty interesting.
 
In the Ultimate Reset guide there's a section dedicated to emotions.  Here's a few points from the guide:

  • It's not unusual during the Reset to find yourself experiencing feelings, memories, or sensations from past relationship or earlier periods of your life.  Somehow, clearing the blockages from within your body has a way of freeing up your emotions too. 
  • Your body is now telling you it's time to handle these things.
  • These feelings present an opportunity to consciously embrace the positive recollections they evoke, and to fully release the unpleasant ones.  
  • Our bodies actually store our emotions, translating them into physical reactions.  They can be deep within the muscles, create tension, problems with our organs, they can create imbalances, disturbances and blockages.
  • The Reset acts as a catalyst for physical and emotional release.
  • Whether you observe these or other emotional shifts during your Reset, don't overanalyze them.  If you need to cry, cry.  IF you feel euphoric, enjoy the euphoria.  Be strong but gentle with yourself.  Allow these changes.  They're a vital part of the process.
